Medical Hand Washing
As Health care workers using proper hand washing technique is so important. It saves patients and also the health care workers life too. It’s a simple technique but its so vital. Also, those pandemic times these were so helpful.
- Occasions that using this Medical Hand Washing,
- Before touching the patient.
- After touching the patient.
- Before any medical or surgical procedure.
- After contaminating patients body fluids Ex: - Blood, Urine
- After touching patient surroundings.
Steps are,
- Wet your hand and apply enough soap and rub hand
palm to palm, (Palm to Palm)
- Right palm over left dorsum with
interlaced fingers and rub 5 times and do it other way to left hand to right
hand, (Back of the palm)
- Palm to palm with finger
interlaced and rub 5 times, (Inter Phalangeal)
- Back of fingers to opposing palm
with fingers interlocked, (Inter Lock)
- Rotational forward and backward rubbing of left
thumb clasped in right palm and rotational rubbing of right thumb clasped in
left palm each 5 times, (Thumb tap)
- Rotational rubbing backwards and forwards with
clasped fingers of right hand in left palm and left hand in right palm, (Tip of
the Finger)
- Wash 1 inch up of the wrist, (Wrist)
Easiest way to remember this is,
- Palm to Palm
- Back of the Palm
- Inter Phalangeal
- Inter Lock
- Thumb Tap
- Tip of fingers
- Wrist
- At finally wash down the soap from the hand.
- After that using towel close the tap and dry your hand.
- Cut nails because microorganisms will be there.
- Before start medical hand washing all the jewelries should be removed.
- Water should not be cold or hot.
